Gregory Messa
Camp Director & teaching Artist
Born in Santa Cruz, Gregory Messa is a freelance percussionist with American Federation of Musicians, and has recently most appeared with the Eco Ensemble at UC Berkeley, The Symphony of the Hills, and the San Antonio Opera and Ballet. He can also be heard jamming with bands like Los Nahuatlatos, Rhythm Report, and The Naggins. A husband and father of a young son, Greg has shared the stage with Gregory Porter, Keith Urban, Marin Alsop, Danny Elfman, and Andrea Bocelli among many others, and can also be seen performing worship music each Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church. Greg is also an avid camper and backpacker, enjoying outdoor activities of almost any kind.
Zack Kirk Olsen
teaching Artist & Drumset specialist
Drummer and educator Zack Olsen was raised all over the western United States and has called Santa Cruz home since 1989. Zack had a love for music growing up but didn't start playing until the end of high school. After studying music at Cabrillo College he hit the road with Santa Cruz ska/rock band Slow Gherkin. He toured the US nine times hitting every state except North Dakota, Alaska and Hawaii. They toured Europe several times and once to Japan. In between he studied privately with master drummers Peter Magadini, Eddie Marshall and Dave Black.
Zack is an in-demand drummer performing all over the San Francisco Bay Area as well as teaching private lessons 50 hours a week. On top of his regular students he spends his summer teaching at the Kuumbwa Jazz Camp, drum teching for the Monterey Jazz Festival and playing in the pit for Cabrillo Stage’s summer productions.
Dedicated to inspire the next generation of drummers, Zack has hosted many guest teachers at his studio and organized drum clinics. Zack lives in Soquel California with his wife and two daughters.

Trevor Dolce
teaching Artist & Redwood Steward
Trevor Dolce is a Southern California based musician and teacher. He holds a Master’s from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Bachelors from San Jose State University. Trevor has studied under, Jack Van Geem, Trey Wyatt, and Galen Lemon. He has performed with a wide variety of ensembles including Symphony Silicon Valley, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Espressivo Chamber Orchestra, Broadway by the Bay, the California Percussion Ensemble, Dana Point Symphony, and Tustin Ballet. Trevor has coached ensembles in various schools such as Portola High, Sage Creek High, and MiraCosta College. He is currently teaching privately while freelancing in the greater Los Angeles and Orange County area.
Trevor is also an outdoor and camping enthusiast, with much experience at our Campsite, The Point. Trevor will also help lead us in outdoor activities, games, and hikes as one of our ‘Redwood Stewards’.

Mark Messa is a master jeweler of growing renown for his exquisite custom designs spanning various styles and mediums. Mark is also a life-long resident of the Santa Cruz Mountains, and expertly familiar with our Campsite property and our California Coast ecology. As a natural guide and caretaker of the forest, Mark will be one of our Redwood Stewards, leading us in learning about and respecting our local camp environment.
